The thought of a God who is greater than us puts us down

Being perfect means you have no wants or needs for you are and have everything good. God is said to be perfect. If there is a God and we are not God and never can be, then it is nonsense to say that we will ever be perfect. We would necessarily be inferior to God. The God concept puts us down.

God could give us the experience of being God even if it were an illusion. That way then we would be sure we have all perfection. There is no logical way in which God could know he is God. He only experiences it. Who cares if it is an illusion as long as it seems real? God would not be a liar in ministering that illusion to us. He would not be a liar for he is compelled to do it to make us happy.

We have to wish we were God or at least simulated Gods. No decent God can ask us to love him the exclusive way the Christian God does. We must be Gods ourselves.

We have to believe that our goodness is all our own work. Even if we follow somebody else's example or influence, we decide to do so and the credit for our works is our own and only our own. We dismiss the notion that God's grace helps us to do good. That implies we need the help. It implies he should be thanked for the good we do. We do good because our nature is good. It has nothing to do with God.

It is not our fault that we cannot be exactly like supreme beings. Therefore if there is a supreme being, then she or he treats us with the same value that he treats her/himself. We must never lose sight of our value. Do not feel inferior to anyone not even the divine.

Instead of praying, "Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference" tell yourself, "I can have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. I can have the courage to change the things I can. And I hope to have the wisdom to know the difference. It may take time but I can do them and I will try to be patient". Which one is compatible then with self-compassion and self-respect?
