Self-Image and its role in allowing us to be happy
We need to have an image of ourselves!
It is said that people have different levels of self-esteem and
these levels change from day to day. They go up and they go down.
Thus therapists may say that you should never esteem or condemn
yourself as a whole but see that you are a mixture of good and
not-so-good.
But we need to establish a self-image of ourselves. This image needs
to be a positive one that is encouraging to ourselves. Many of us
with strong self-esteem still carry significant traces of
self-hatred in our hearts. But as long as we see these imperfections
as making us better as making us that great thing called human we
can still be said to have a self-image of ourselves as entities
which have tremendous self-value.
Reach out for your dignity. Do that and you will exalt others to
higher levels of happiness and peace as well. Become a star and your
light will shine and make other stars shine too.
You need to work on your self-esteem day by day. It is a mistake to
think that you can do some wonderful thing and you will
automatically have self-esteem or strong self-love for the rest of
your life. No matter what you do, you have to work at it day by day.
Working at it is a sign that you see that you really are valuable
and want to keep yourself seeing and feeling it. It is affirming
that you are more lovable than you realise. It is also affirming
that you can and will realise it.
