THE TOXIN OF PROPAGANDA: MIRACLE
The quest for miracles is the quest for religious propaganda: "Hey Jesus is the
Son of God because he raised the dead and turned a few loaves of bread into a
ton of it to feed thousands of people!" If Jesus is indeed God's son, we can
honour him implicitly if his teaching advocated good deeds and warmth towards
others. If you are a truly good person who feeds the hungry and clothes the
naked etc and avoids the vices of pride, laziness etc you don't need to believe
in Jesus or to know he is the Son of God. Good religion would be about doing
good works and not about dogma. And therefore not about miracles. Jesus raising
the dead is not about Jesus doing good works or being a good role-model. It is
about getting attention for an interpretation of Jesus. Ultimately, it is not
even about Jesus. It's about giving Christians the ego buzz one gets when others
agree with one's absurd positions religious or otherwise.
