Does life end at death?

Yes - we cease to exist.
 
What is the advantage of believing this?

There will be bad things that can happen that we can do nothing about. There will be nothing we can do to make ourselves feel better about them. It is not true that there is a solution to every problem. We need to accept this. For example, if I am dying or in the horrors of depression, hoping for a solution will only make me feel worse. I don't want to add to my disappointment. Religionists are cruel whether they realise it or not. If religion helps people with day to day problems, that is worthless when you consider the damage done to people who suffer the worst. It is preparing people to suffer far more if they fall into a black hole with the light at the end of the tunnel an insurmountable distance away.
 
What is the advantage if we know or think we know there is no afterlife?

 

If you know something bad is in store, you have to find a way or ways to accept the inevitable. To those who fear death, it is not the prospect of death that is the problem but your strength of character. Knowing is being certain and certainty in itself is a better guarantee that acceptance is possible to a good degree. Belief that there is no afterlife makes that a bit more difficult.

Why do people like religion?

Because the doctrine of life after death is the big attraction. It is not God religion cares about but getting the pie in the sky off him.

Can we disprove the afterlife?

 

We cannot. There may be unknown laws that make it possible.

What does the fact that many people do not believe in a life after death or are not sure if there is one and are still reasonably happy and nice people reveal?

 

They show that all of us can do without the concept and just have to learn how to. It also shows that anybody who needs the idea of life after death is a bit emotionally unstable. It does no good to fear death. You should accept death for your own sake. Fear is behind hope of the afterlife therefore the belief is bad.

Should we believe in it?

 

No. We know that human life is absolutely valuable. It is more valuable if this life is thought to be the only one because if we die and live on then death isn’t so serious. If human life is absolutely valuable then anything that reduces that importance is to be forbidden.
 
What does the afterlife doctrine imply about murder?

 

That it is not that bad. It does not really kill the person. Believers are so hypocritical they won't admit they believe that murder is impossible. They won't admit that so-called murderers are being falsely accused. And it pretends to love the murderers while smearing them!
 
Why is it evil for religion to teach that death is not the end when self-deception is so powerful in the world and touches everyone?

 

The murderer can find a way to condone his actions. It encourages murder. You cannot seriously condemn murder if you believe in the afterlife.

What should we say to miracle-workers and spiritualists who claim to have evidence for the afterlife?

 

Faith in an afterlife is evil and if apparitions and miracles support that faith they are evil too and their evidence therefore stands for nothing.

What about the thought that everlasting happiness lies beyond the grave?

 

It certainly makes the afterlife more important than this one and makes normal people feel the pain of being stuck here on earth while Heaven has all these everlasting goodies.

Why can’t you say that life will not be any better after death?

 

For then you can stop worrying about helping others now for you have all eternity to start.
 
Why can’t you say the afterlife is worse than this one?

 

That puts terror into peoples’ hearts.
 
What is the worst doctrine of the afterlife?

 

All three are as bad as each other.

All are judged at death by God. Some go to Heaven forever perhaps via Purgatory. The rest go to Hell forever.
 
What is evil about this teaching?

 

We want our beliefs to be right even if we don't like them. We want to be right even then. To accept this teaching is, one way, to assent to people going to Hell forever.
 
What else is evil about it?

 

It is better to have no afterlife than one where people can go to Hell forever. No truly good person would disagree. They would only believe just so that they can think they have a Heaven to look forward too at the expense of other people.

Consider this argument,
 
You are consciousness and you are too special to be destroyed!
 
Remember how something was able to defy the fact that there should have been nothing. Remember how all things subsist because of their supernatural nature. The highest level of supernatural existence is to be a conscious being. This being then being the zenith of supernatural power cannot cease to exist.
 
But could we be put out of existence by other supernatural beings? They made the universe for conscious beings and the first thing they would have done was set laws in motion to prevent us going out of existence.

The spirits love us and will not let us perish or go out of existence.
 
When the time is right, the spirit intelligences come back into new bodies and the life cycle starts all over again.
 
The reason the intelligences do this is because they want to make a universe in which they can become living beings and evolve through love – it is necessary to be vulnerable and be among vulnerable people to love for love needs suffering to fight.
 
A physician who saves a thousand lives and murders a patient will have to be imprisoned for murder despite the good he did. This would be mistaken if this is the only life.
 
Death was created only as the gateway to a new evolution.

Thinking I am too great to be destroyed will not guarantee that I will live forever. It is an emotional argument.
 
All that stuff about how there is something when there might have been nothing does nothing to prove life after death.
 
And if it is harmful to deny life after death that does not prove that there is life after death.
