MORBIUS THE 2022 FILM IS A PARABLE OF THE EVIL OF FAITH IN GOD

In the film Morbius (2022), Milo is very ill and uses a serum with occult magical properties to get back to health and avert impending death. But now he is some kind of part-time monster and he has a need for human blood.  He can only feast in blood banks so long.  So what does he do when that runs out?  He knew there was a risk he would end up killing people to feed on their blood.

The serum if there is a God was ultimately designed by him and humans only rediscovered it.  That is one thing.  But where does its supernatural power come from?  God?  It is strange to argue that it would be a sin even for Jesus to make a virus to kill people in the lab but would be okay if he just magics the virus into existence from nothing!

Back to the point.  Was Morbius morally right in taking the risk?

If you presume that prayer and magic and God do nothing to tamper with the natural course of things but let them run as if there were no force bigger than nature then the answer is no.  There was no luck or providence to make the risk worth the lives of others.

You know however that remarkable coincidences can happen so you can say that maybe one of them will mean that Morbius did the right thing. You can say that risk by its nature can go the wrong way but taking risks is a necessary part of life.

This point might be made by an atheist.  But believers think God uses coincidences so there trust in coincidences is amplified.

At least dropping faith discourages the risk.  It does not eliminate it.

The trolley problem asks if you should let nature run its course and let a train kill ten people when you could stop this by pushing somebody fatally on the track.  It says letting happen is fine for you are not able to control what will come.  But by giving somebody the push you are controlling the loss of a life.  Should Morbius let things run their course instead of risking others to save his own life?  Refusing to try to control and permitting whatever comes to come is as much control as pushing the person.  There is no moral difference between killing and letting die.  Either way you are reacting to a loss of life and saying, "Yes", to it under the circumstances.
