THE ARGUMENT THAT FREE WILL IS ABOUT BEING ABLE TO GROW IN RATIONALITY

Here is a good understanding why if free will is real it might matter and what is good about it.

“The whole point of free will is for you to transcend what you already are, including what you already believe. Free will is about possibilities. We demonstrate that we can do this every time we admit we need to re-check the facts, and even more so when we change our minds.”

If free will is about the power to be about to kill or hurt somebody and doing the direct opposite then it is about changing our minds and developing our minds. 

Religion warps reason and gaslights people.  It says that there is so much suffering in the universe for we did not use our free will wisely.  It cannot blame free will for if faith in God or in religion prevent us developing well rationally then free will is not for our betterment.  It is just an excuse for rewarding and punishing but not for transforming.
